Massachusetts bans texting while driving, Delaware restricts cell use
July 09, 2010
On July 2, Massachusetts passed a law that bans all Massachusetts drivers from text messaging. It takes effect in October and states that any driver caught writing or reading a text message can be cited and fined $100. Law enforcement will have the authority to stop any driver suspected of texting. However, the offense will not be considered a moving violation and will not be subject to an insurance surcharge.
On July 6, Delaware passed a law that requires motorists to use hands-free mobile devices while driving. The law goes into effect on January 2, 2011. It also prohibits drivers from text messaging, sending or reading e-mails and browsing websites while driving.
