IRS gives truckers three-month extension on highway use tax
July 22, 2011
The Internal Revenue Service has advised truckers and other owners of heavy highway vehicles that their next federal highway use tax return, usually due August 31st, will instead be due on November 30, 2011.
Since you cannot file the 2011/2012 return before November 1, 2011, the 2010/2011 Schedule 1 will be accepted by the DMVs as proof of payment through this November.
For vehicles acquired from July through November, a copy of the bill of sale or similar document showing that the owner purchased the vehicle within the previous 150 days may be used as proof of payment.
