Subaru update regarding recent earthquake and tsunami
April 05, 2011
Subaru of Canada has announced that Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), their parent company in Japan, will continue the current shutdown of their vehicle production facility in Gunma, Japan and will re-evaluate the situation this week. Subaru has indicated that the Gunma factory is ready to resume full operation but is experiencing a delay due to a supply shortage of key parts from suppliers. According to Subaru, they and FHI are working with these suppliers to ensure that production resumes as soon as possible.
In addition, Subaru has announced that after a full review of the systems and inventory at the Subaru Parts Distribution Centre in Japan, this facility has resumed partial operation. FHI says it expects that the distribution centre will move towards normal operation as logistical and infrastructure conditions continue to improve.
Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA) has confirmed that production will not be affected this week as they will continue to monitor the availability of key parts from suppliers and will review the situation again this week.
Subaru is suggesting orders you have in-house or that are pending be submitted as soon as you are able so they can be removed from the unassigned inventory. Subaru feels that its dealers may feel the effects of disruptions in production and will be looking for product from Fleet inventory.
PHH will continue to provide you with additional information as it becomes available.
