1/28 Toyota adds to list of vehicles for floor mat recall

On October 1, 2009, we reported a Toyota recall of certain models for a problem with floor mats that could jam gas pedals open.

Yesterday, Toyota announced [scroll through the web page] that it has added five more models to the floor mat-related recall. They are:

  • 2008 to 2010 Highlanders
  • 2009 to 2010 Corollas
  • 2009 to 2010 Venzas
  • 2009 to 2010 Matrixes
  • 2009 to 2010 Pontiac Vibes

Toyota is working on a remedy for this situation. Drivers are instructed to take out any removable driver’s floor mat and NOT replace it with any other floor mat until the safety recall remedy has been completed on the vehicle. Drivers should retain the floor mat (put it in the trunk). After the recall remedy has been completed, only floor mats designed specifically for the vehicle and which are properly secured should be installed on the driver’s floor.

PHH is in contact with Toyota on all of its recalls, including the accelerator sticking problem, and will continue to keep you informed.
