Chevrolet Volt owner satisfaction program
January 06, 2012
As communicated in our December 1, 2011 news update, General Motors and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) have been conducting an investigation to address post-crash test performance of the Chevrolet Volt.
This week, GM announced enhancements to the Volt’s structure and battery coolant system that are intended to further protect the battery from the possibility of an electrical fire occurring days or weeks after a severe crash.
Enhancements include:
- Strengthening of an existing portion of the Volt’s vehicle safety structure
- Adding a sensor in the reservoir of the battery coolant system to monitor coolant levels
- Adding a tamper-resistant bracket to the top of the battery coolant reservoir to help prevent potential coolant overfill
Timeline:
- The vehicle enhancements are being incorporated into the manufacturing process as production resumes this month.
- In February, GM will conduct a Customer Satisfaction Program to perform these enhancements to vehicles currently in operation. Your drivers currently operating a Volt will receive a letter directly from GM instructing them to contact their local Chevrolet Volt dealer to schedule service.
In the meantime, if any of your Volt drivers have immediate concerns about their vehicle, they should contact the nearest Chevrolet dealer.
