On Wednesday, October 27, clients, prospects, supplier partners, manufacturers, and PHH employees weathered a little frost and light snow to attend a risk and safety symposium at Canada Olympic Park in
Jim Halliday, President of PHH Canada, introduced Western Canadian fleet professionals to The Center for Transportation Safety (CTS), a new division of PHH Arval. CTS provides fleets with comprehensive behind-the-wheel and other driver training solutions, and PHH acquired its unique capabilities last summer to enhance its industry-leading position in risk and safety solutions.
Symposium attendees test drove heavy truck and passenger vehicle simulators aboard CTS’ mobile driver training classroom. Jay Shelly, Director of Business Development at The Center for Transportation Safety, describes simulator training as able to “duplicate and simulate things that are normally too dangerous, too expensive, or impossible to duplicate in the real world.”
Participants got the chance to try some safe skid maneuvers aboard a specialized skid vehicle. CTS professionals were also on hand to lead attendees through some other maneuvers, such as emergency braking, evasive maneuvers, backing, and mirror and seat adjustments.
Penn West Energy’s Mike Breward said, “It’s a good skill to know. It’s something that everybody should have the ability to practice in a controlled setting. It’s not the time to do it when you’re on the highway skidding across the road.”
In addition to these behind-the-wheel experiences, PHH hosted an exhibit that featured product experts and live demonstrations of the company’s online driver training capabilities, as well as PHH Onboard, PHH’s telematics solution proven to positively affect driver behaviour for a safer, more effective fleet. This indoor exposition also included a look at PHH Arval’s revolutionary new North American Ordering System.
PHH’s manufacturer partners brought more than 40 exciting vehicles for clients and prospects to try at a Ride and Drive, and other supplier partners set up kiosks inside to network with attendees, answer questions and demonstrate their products and services.
