PHH Arval's managed maintenance programs are easily customizable. To ensure the answers to the questions below apply to you, please submit a Service Request Form so that we may provide answers based on your company's policies. Do I need to contact PHH Arval prior to going in for every service? If you only require basic preventive maintenance that does not exceed your card limit, such as an oil change and tire rotation, you do not need to call PHH Arval beforehand. For other service needs, call us first. Depending on the problem, the mileage, and the vehicle's repair history, we will make a specific recommendation about where to take it for service. We can more effectively manage the repair costs and have the vehicle repaired correctly the first time if we know what problems you're experiencing. Some companies require that we verify all items with you prior to authorizing any repairs. You can do that right by submitting a Service Request Form. A PHH Arval technician will email a reply within 24 hours. For more immediate attention, call the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card. Return to top When should I use my red PHH Service Card? The red PHH Service Card should be presented to the repair facility prior to all maintenance and repairs to your vehicle. This way, we can: - Keep the maintenance records accurate and up-to-date
- Negotiate and authorize appropriate repairs
- Avoid unnecessary repairs
It also makes your life easier by removing the overhead and paperwork involved in having to pay for and expense repairs. If you do expense a repair for some reason, please submit a Service Request Form (or call the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card) to let us know what was done and at what mileage, so we can keep your vehicle's service history up to date. Return to top Which facilities accept the red PHH Service Card? When you call PHH Arval or submit a Service Request Form, we will advise you which Preferred Network facilities are in your area. We have national accounts with Firestone and Goodyear for maintenance and repairs, along with a selected network of dealerships and independent shops. If you need only minor preventive maintenance, check out our Supplier Locator, where you can enter a Canadian Postal Code and see a list of nearby Preferred Network facilities. Return to top What do I do for a rental vehicle or alternate transportation while my vehicle is in the shop? PHH Arval has accounts with major rental agencies that enable you to rent a vehicle and charge it to your red PHH Service Card. Your company may have specific policies regarding rental vehicles. Please call or submit a Service Request Form, and we can provide you with your company's specific rental policy. Return to top At what intervals should I have the oil changed on my vehicle? PHH Arval recommends a 7,500-km interval for cars and light trucks. In certain circumstances, such as excessive idling, police applications, or trailer towing, there may be a need to follow a more frequent schedule. If you feel this may apply to you, let us know by submitting a Service Request Form, and we will respond with an answer based on your company's policy. We also recommend that the oil level be checked when re-fueling and topped off as needed. Return to top Do my tires need any routine maintenance? Although your company policy may differ, PHH Arval recommends an 18,000-km rotation interval. There is no need to balance your tires unless you are experiencing vibrations at highway speeds. Tire pressure should be checked regularly. The best time to check your tire pressure is when the vehicle has not been driven for at least two hours. Check your owner's manual or door jamb sticker for the correct inflation pressure for your vehicle. Check your air pressure and add air as needed when you check your oil level. If you have questions about the condition or performance of your tires, submit a Service Request Form, or call the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card to speak to a Service Specialist. Return to top How often should I get my vehicle tuned up? Many vehicles now have platinum spark plugs and other long-life components that call for replacement at varying intervals from 30,000 to 100,000 km. Submit a Service Request Form and we'll reply with the tune-up maintenance schedule for your vehicle. If you are experiencing a mechanical difficulty with your vehicle, submit a Service Request Form or call PHH Arval at the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card. We will assess your needs and recommend a repair facility. Return to top How often should my antifreeze be changed? There are many different types of coolant with different maintenance intervals. Your vehicle may differ, but many recent models do not require a coolant change until 150,000 km. Submit a Service Request Form and, based on your vehicle and company policy, we will advise you when this service should be performed. Return to top Does my vehicle require regular automatic transmission services? There are many different types of transmissions and transmission fluids. Some manufacturers do not recommend the transmission be serviced at all during the life of the vehicle; whereas, others recommend transmission services be performed as often as 25,000 km under severe-duty use. PHH Arval uses manufacturer-scheduled maintenance recommendations for transmission service intervals unless your company specifies otherwise. If you are experiencing abnormal transmission noise or shifting characteristics, changing the fluid and filter rarely corrects the condition. Please contact PHH Arval to have the condition assessed, and we'll direct you to an appropriate nearby facility to address the problem. Submit a Service Request Form or call us at the toll-free number on the back of your your red PHH Service Card. Return to top How often should my engine belts be replaced? There are no set intervals for belt replacement. Minor surface cracks in the serpentine belt are normal. Since this cracking does not compromise the structural integrity of the belt and does not indicate belt failure, we do not suggest replacing the belt based on this normal condition. Your company may have a special policy regarding belts. For answers to your belt questions, or if you are experiencing a problem with the vehicle, submit a Service Request Form, and we will help you resolve the issue. Return to top How often should my vehicle have a wheel alignment? Unless your company's policy dictates otherwise, there's no set interval for checking or adjusting the wheel alignment. Under normal conditions, your vehicle may never need to have a front-end or four-wheel alignment. Many irregular tire wear and handling problems can be traced to lack of rotation or improper air pressure. If you're having any drivability problems with your vehicle such as an off-center steering wheel or a consistent pull to one side not corrected by tire rotation, it may indicate a problem with the alignment. Submit a Service Request Form detailing your concerns, and we'll direct you to the proper repair facility. Return to top My "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light is on. Is it okay to drive my vehicle? The "Check Engine" and "Service Engine Soon" lights usually indicates the vehicle's computer has detected a sensor reading outside of expected parameters. Since this computer controls the engine and transmission, you may notice some drivability concerns. The vehicle will usually not quit running; however, it is important to have the vehicle checked as soon as possible. Submit a Service Request Form or call us at the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Sevice Card, so that we can assist you in getting the vehicle to a repair facility. Return to top How often should my brakes be checked? The life expectancy of brakes can vary depending on driving conditions, such as vehicle load, driving style, and amount of highway driving. PHH Arval recommends having your brakes inspected at least every 18,000 km, usually during tire rotation. If you're experiencing any vibration, noise, or other brake problems contact PHH Arval at the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card immediately. Return to top My "ABS" (anti-lock brake system) dash light keeps coming on while I am driving. Is it okay to drive the vehicle with this light on? This light alerts you that there may be a problem with the anti-lock portion of your braking system. When the light is illuminated this part of the system will not be functional. Generally, the vehicle will still stop normally except for the absence of the anti-lock feature, and should be safe to drive to a repair facility (see your vehicle's owner's manual for details on the operation of the ABS system in your specific vehicle). If there are any problems with braking function, don't jeopardize your safety by continuing to drive. Contact PHH Arval by calling the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card or submit a Service Request Form, so we can assess your needs and direct you to an appropriate repair facility. Return to top Can I get snow tires, studs, or chains for my vehicle? This depends on your company's policies. Many of our clients don't allow snow tires. Before installing snow cables or chains, consult the owner's manual to ensure proper tire-to-body clearance and determine potential impact on vehicle handling. With this in mind, if these types of traction devices are appropriate for your vehicle and local conditions warrant them, we'll direct you to a National Account tire facility. Submit a Service Request Form or call the toll-free number on the back of your red PHH Service Card, and PHH Arval will advise you of your company's policies. Remember to keep the tires that will be taken off your vehicle so they can be reinstalled in the spring. Most companies require the driver to store and keep track of both sets of tires and arrange with PHH Arval to have them changed as appropriate for the season. Return to top |
